What is it like to live on the Bushwick/Bedford-Stuyvesant (Stuy Heights) border in Brooklyn, NY?

I lived in Bushwick for 54 days beginning January 7, 2013.

I took the J train but also sometimes walked to the L train (Wilson Ave station). 1213 Jefferson Avenue if you want to look it up.

The agent sold me on the area as "up and coming," and the apartment's interior was indeed brand new. The building had been completely renovated and included central air, something even multi-million dollar condos covet in NYC.

But every morning as I left my granite counter top laden home, I was solicited for drugs by groups of 3-5 guys wearing similar outfits. On every corner.

That, and the gas line didn't connect from the street to my building. So after 54 days in New York's winter with 3 space heaters, I got my money back and moved the f*** out.

Now in Manhattan where there are streetlights and classier drug dealers. Welcome to New York.
