i started learning to code in September 2015.
my day job in New York City, a marketing agency i co-founded with 2 friends, was driving me nuts. so i packed a bag and flew to Chiang Mai, Thailand.
essentially i worked 14-16 hours per day, 7 days a week for a month and a half. i took online courses and completed a couple free books like Hartl's Rails Tutorial.
more important than the material, perhaps, was the persistence. within a couple weeks it felt like i was having 'aha' moments left and right.
things i forced myself to memorize just days prior were now clicking at a fundamental level. and this is where learning to code becomes addictive: you tap into what it means to learn anything.
