i won't say they should, but here's what would happen if they could:
learning to code yields professional independence. it also (usually) yields higher paying jobs, more autonomy in your daily workflow, and a higher chance of being able to work remotely.
put that way...
want to spend more time with your kids? learn to code. want to commute less (or not at all)? learn to code. want to sleep in before starting your work day? you get the picture.
